Thinking Activity on paradise Lost

#Thinking Activity: Human perspective v/s Divine perspective on Milton's Paradise Lost:

Hello readers!

I am the student of English language and literature, here I would like to write this blog on human perspective and devine perspective on Milton's paradise lost, we can see 'Genesis' from The holy Bible as devine perspective , but the literature is always based on human perspective as Milton's Paradis Lost, he rewrite paradise lost as a human perspective, so let's see.

#Human perspective on Milton's paradise Lost:

Human perspective according to me is,

  • If God do not want to share the knowledge, than why he put on that apple tree, as a risk, why he could not take in himself, in which nobody can take. In this matter God has also take mistake.

  • If devil is harmful than why he made first, and when Eve disobedient by satan, Instead of devil satan why she get more painful punishment. In God's justification is can be partial when we see the punishment of Eve as a woman and Adam as a man like good to God, even satan choose the way through serpent to came in Edan garden, What is the mistake of serpent, it also get painful punishment like Eve. It's show God's justice is not fair.
  • We can also see the character Adam as representation of human emotions, when Eve tells  the whole event and to eat an apple, he thought that if God  punished Eve and make another Eve for him, but he loves only this Eve, so tZhis thought shows of human emotions as well as human perspective.
# Divine perspective on Milton's Paradise Lost:

  • As we know that The holy Bible is based on devine perspective, God is the center of Bible, Adam and Eve as flat , and voiceless not freedom at all. They don't have any emotion or feeling or voice. The satan-serpent tempted Eve, Eve tempted Adam and the fall happened. God emerged and punished all three, here we can see devine perspective through the God's punishment.

#How do we read the character Eve as transgresser and yet defendable:

If we read the character of Eve in Milton's Paradise Lost than we can explore the character Eve as not transgresser through her defendable arguments, she said that,

"What may this means?
Language of Man pronounced By
tongue of brute ,and
human sense expressed! The first
at least of these I thought
denied To beasts,
whom God on their creation-day
Created mute to all articulate sound? "

Here  Eve as the strong defendable through the freedom, she wanted to know what is "True" and what is "False" through the knowledge like God. She reflect as more intellectual, curious and revolutionary than Adam, the deem which is done by her is nothing wrong on the side of as freedom. She reflects  more revolutionary and the today's woman's situation.

Thank you  ...... .

Thinking Activity on Wordsworth and Coleridge.

# Thinking Activity on the view points of  wordsworth and coleridge on poem:

Hello readers!

I am the student of English language and literature. Here my intend to write this blog as a task given by Dr. DilipBarad sir, so let's start.

# Brief note on the views of Wordsworth and Coleridge on poem:

# wordsworth's views on poem:

As we know that wordsworth was famous for his poem especially the poem of nature.
Here we can  discuss briefly about wordsworth's views on poem, how he thought about should be and not, and which elements  should be required.

Poetry according to wordsworth, 'is the breath and finer spirit of all knowledge, the impassioned expression that is in the countenance of all science'

Wordsworth also argue that poetry should be written in the real language of common man, rather than in the lofty and elaborate dictions that were then considered "poetic".

# Coleridge's views on poem:

In ' Biographia Literaria'  Coleridge's views on nature and function of poetry is discussed in philosophical terms. He believes that greatest poetry is that which achieves synthesis among elements, emotions and attitudes. He was also gave importance  of  elements of mystery, wonder and supernatural.

#  To A Butterfly with reference to view points of wordsworth#

                             To A Butterfly

Stay near me-do not take thy flight!
A little longer stay in sight!
Much converse do I find in thee,
Historian of my infancy!
Float near me;do not yet depart!
Dead times revive in thee:
Thou brig'st, gay creature as thou art!
A solemn image to my heart,
My father's family!
Oh! Pleasant, pleasant were the days,
The time, when, in our childish plays,
My sister Emmeline and I
Together chased the butterfly!
A very hunter did I rush
Upon the prey :-with leaps and springs
I followed on from brake to bush
The dust from off it's wings.

This short and sweet poem is wordsworth's own so, definitely it is made by the aspect and view of wordsworth's own, this poem is also considered as a nature poem, based on Butterfly, which is symbol of beauty and liked by all that's why the butterfly doesn't feel free and stay from human beings, but here the poet and his sister chased upon as a hunter and finally brake to bush the dust from off it's wings that's very painful for butterfly.

#  " the Raven " With the reference to a view point of coleridge :

'The Raven' is poetry written by  Edgar Allan Poe, in this poem we can connected with the coleridge's view point of supernatural elements and mysterious thing which is mainly convey in this poem. This whole poem is based on supernatural atmosphere.

Shitala saatam-Religion vs science

# sitala saatam - Religion vs science; Inoculation vs vaccination; non-acceptance on intellectuals

Hello readers!

I am the student of English language and literature  here I write this blog as a task given by Dr. Dilip Barad sir as a Sunday reading task. So l share my view point on shitala saatam.

# shitala saatam - Religion vs science

As we know that our country is known as religious country. In every part of our country we find that religious play a major part in people's lives somehow as pure faith or a superstitious way. People also fear from religious ritual if they cannot follow. If there is something going wrong than they believed that their god is not happy on him than  began to worship the particular god. For e.g.one disease "shitala" , one who suffer from shitala deases they can't survive so people began to worship of this disease as goddess shitala every year as a shitala saatam.

Now days we know the whole things about shitala and also we can found  vaccination to save ourselves from the life threatening disease like small pox (shitala) . So sitalaa saatam is the day which we witness the conflict between religion and science.

  • Edward Jenner and the history of smallpox and vaccination

Smallpox inoculation is an ancient Indian tradition and was practiced in India before the West.

Smallpox was not known to Hippocrates, and probably not to Galen or his successors either. The earliest Western references which seem to describe it are those of early medieval chroniclers. The turning point comes with the great physical Abu Bakr Muhmad  whose Kitabon al-jadari Wa'l-hasba is still regarding rightly as a landmark in the history of medical science is clear these diseases and their differentiation in the Western world.

  • As the concept of worshiping goddess shitalaa is failing and with their questions are raised against the practice of eating cold food  the new breed of nationalists have emerged to justify it as practice to overcome deficiency of vitamin B12.

As we know that behind the every religious ritual had  some some scientific benefits. Same as in shitala saatam we have to the practice of eating cold food, the scientific reason behind it is that our encestors are purely vegetarian so that's why they had not resources by which they can get vitamin B12 so in shitala saatam we eat cold food it has a lot of fungi by which we can get vitamin B12, only if while making the food use of saidhav sault. So shitala saatam is beneficial for human health.

August: patriotism and religious fervour

# August is the month of revolution and religious festivals:

Hello readers!

I am the student of English language and literature. I write this blog as the task given by Dr. Dilip Barad sir, so let's start!

As we know that INDIA is the full form of Independence Nation Declared In August.

Owning to the Independence Day-15th of August this time of the year.when the month of August comes seems to be every one have full of patriotic feeling. As k. R. S. Iyengar write ,

" Freedom had  come indeed, but it was not exactly the freedom that our writers of yesterday had dreamed or sung about of freedom "

Bigshorts -For India of Tomorrow

1. In Defence of freedom:A film by Nandita Das.

Saadat Hasam Manto -played by Nawazuddin  siddiqui.

In this video we can see that still we have not freedom to express our thoughts on the harsh reality which is happened in our society. Our country has freedom but still our mind is  far away from freedom. They can not accept the reality and freedom in truely sense.

2. This Bloody  line - A Film By Ram Mathvani

An amazing short film on a poem by W. H. Auden on the man drew a line to divide India and Pakistan. An unpardonable act. The karma whose heavy price even today the innocent people are paying with their flesh and blood.

# August is the  month of religious festivals #

August is the month wherein Indians celebrate several important religious festivals. It is also is the pious month of shravan along with festivals like Rakshabanth, Janmastami, Pateti, BakariBakari-ld, Molakat-Gauri vrat, Divaso, and many more common festival days like ekadshi etc.

'Of Dramatic Poesy' by John Dryden.

# literary theory and criticism: Dryden's Essay 'of Dramatic Poesy':

Hello Readers !

I am the student of english language and literature, Here I write this blog as the task given by Dr. Dilip barad sir. As given six video to watch and gave one idea or concept which we like from each video and ask at list one question from each video. So which I like concept I depicted here.

# why Dr. Samuel Johnson called Dryden the father of English criticism?

Dryden was being called 'the father of English criticism by Dr. Samuel Johnson (1709-1786) father in the sense, one who originate certain things, one who propogate in a particular in a sustain manner we know that before Dryden there was sir Philip sidney in the english translation but he left very little of material compare to that Dryden has quite more.
Father also in the sense if we take little simplistically after Aristotle here is a person. Who is giving us a very well-firmed definition of play. And besides of his Dramatic poise he has other prefaces and other critical writing mentioning in the subsequent chapter which gives the position of father of criticism to Dryden.

# short video lecture on Dryden as critic and title of the Essay:'Of Dramatic poesy 'as a critical work.

Dramatic poesy as practiced by the Neoclassicist like Dryden need to justification itself, practicinious like Shakespeare, Webster or Marlowe they all are romantic as it is that the dramatic art form practice by the Neoclassicist has to put into on flag courageously and show is autonomis and independent once again rooting back through sideeny to Horance to Aristotle is once again to the point. So Dramatic piesy looks back, notupport only looks to temper and moderate the co practitioners of the dramatic art of Dryden's own

# SLV on Dryden's Definition of play.

Definition of play
'A play ought to be a just and lively image of human nature, representing it's passions and humors, and the changes of fortune to which it is subject for the delight and instruction of mankind'

The Dramatic poesy represent and anlight few significant words the play out to be just a lively
image not artificially. Representation of human nature.

# controversy regarding use and avoidance of rhymes in Dryden's 'Essay of Dramatic poesy'

The debate between crites and Dryden himself as Neander.

Neander defend sound is really weak and  in praxis. We have to remember that Dryden's most famous play All for love, is not in verse. So he supports it here, then goes on to write a play which is not in verse. So he seems to have learnt from this exercise and that a play should be more  natural. Neander's defense as to say, he says that he agrees that only he would includes serious plays in the ambit. And he should say he says that the adding of the rhyrhyme in it, the verse in a actually more. The grandeur, the grandeur of thought and action that matches with serious.

# The arguments between crites and Neander about the use of 'rhymed verse'(heroic couplet) and 'blank verse' in the play (of dramatic poesy'1668) .

Neander  is stand for use of rhyme verse. Crites on rhyme and blank verse are presented.

  • Crites say that rhyme is  unnatural in the play. So it should not be. It should be proper medium for presently of human nature.

Neander say that literature is sensory phenomenon. When you read something. Itappeals your sense of vision but it appeals your sense of listening too. That adds more charm to the literature. So it is all about choosing of the words, how do you choose the words. So if we use appropriate words at the appropriate place. Than there is no point of unnaturally.

  •  Crites say that without premeditation, it is impossible to express or speak. 'No man without premeditation speak in rhyme
NeanNeander say that. If the stress meter, pitch, pan in language them it creates a certain impression, certain effect over the language.

 # some Questions from the videos:

Video-1:
 Q. -In Dryden's Definition, there is the word 'Image'. Image is okay if it is Just. Just image also very a drab kind of an image, How?

Video-2:
 Q. - In which way the Neoclassical poets were getting two extreme positions, How they are use in  literary field.

Video-3:
Q. -How can be difference between pleasure and delight. And through the definition of drama how can be conclude the drama?
Video-4:
The debate between crites and Eugenius's views on the superiority of the ancient and modern in of dramatic poesy, in which one's debate is really true?

 Video-5:
Q. - By using rhythms he enjoys the rhyme and will derive more pleasure, but Is rhyme play a same part in serious performance play?

Video-6:
In this debate between crites and Neander for using rhyme in literary work, whose debate is really true?

The purpose by T. P. Kailasam

"The purpose"-T.P.Kailasam

In the field of literature we have many form of art like Drama, short stories, Novel, poetry etc. In the form of Drama, especially in indian writing in english, we find many well known dramatic who wrote very beautiful drama Or play, like Tagore, Aurobindo, T. P. Kailasam etc. Here we talk about T. P. Kailasam.

#Brief introduction of T. P. Kailasam:

T. P. Kailasam (1884-1946) was a prominent playwright, writer, and a poet of kannada and a poet of kannada and english.

  • His popular plays are:
     Fulfilment,
     The purpose,
     The Brahmin's curse.
This play is divided into two acts. The central theme:based on Adi parva of Mahabharat .

The purpose of learning archery.

# compare and contrast Arjun and Eklavya's character.

When we compare and contrast Arjun and Eklavya's character we can see the purpose of both the students of learning archery. Arjun's purpose is to become greatest archer of the world. While Eklavya's purpose is to save animals of the jungle by this we can see both of as acontrastive character one is arrogant and prodigal prince while other is a savior of Animals of jungle. The main thing which make different between them is Arjun is kshatriy as a powerful upper class while Eklavya is a Nishada boy as a weak person from lower caste. In  this  play   we can see  Eklavy a is a protagonist and Arjun is an antagonist.

# what is subaltern? Who do you think is the subaltern in this play? Explain with an example.

Concept of subaltern:

In the post-colonial studies and in critical theory, the term subaltern is someone with a low ranking in a social, political, or other hierarchy. It can also means someone who has been marginalized or oppressed. Antonio Gramsci coined the term subaltern to identify the social groups excluded from  the society.
In the purpose we can find that Eklavya from low caste, he was Nishada boy and Arjuna  was a king's boy, prince and he was Arya. So Eklavya can not study Archery from guru  Dronacharya, because he was Nishada boy. At that time only high class or king's sons learn archery, and Drona was guru only Arjuna not any other. So we can say that Nishada is subaltern caste or goup of people and Eklavya was as a subaltern person. Even his purpose to learn archery is good and he was smart than Arjuna yet he can't became great archery because of his caste. so he learn archery by the idol of Drona.

# write your views about Education system in India with reference to past and present time.

When we see Education system in India in the past (ancient) time is totally different than present time, because in past time the person who want to learn or education, they can't take education from their village but they should be gone on guru's ashram at jungle and learn so many things like how to live with manners and some archery skills etc. But there are also some patiality, like only higher class take education e. g. Kshatriya and brahmins have opportunity to take education. No chance for lawer class even have good skill or motives.
In present time education system gave chance to take education but casteism also play a role, we can see some patiality in education system. Here we can take two example in which we can see the struggles of  students who belong to lawer class .

In hichki movie we can see the lawer castle students have special room 9F.they can not take education as higher class students take, but in our society have some noble person(teacher) that's why that student go in high place to achieve their dreams and goal. Let's discuss another example.

In super 30 we can also see the education system as a business to earn money. and alot of struggle for lawer and poor class, but we can find the main theme is" Ab Rajasthan ka beta raja nahi banega jo hakdar hoga vahi banega ".In Education system we can also find corruption.

# Is Dronacharya an ideal teacher ? If yes, then how? and if no, then why? Explain with example.

No, Dronacharya is not an ideal teacher, because as we know the definition of teacher or guru 'one who dispels darkness of ignonce'. We can say an ideal teacher who has no patiality, selfishness or all students are equal in his eyes whether it is from lawer or higher class. But here Dronacharya ignored the proposal of Eklavya because of he is come from lawer class , in spite of this act after Eklavya's learning from his idol he take his right hand's thumb (his archery skill) that shows his selfishness because Eklavya became greatest archery expert in the world even than Arjuna that's why Dronacharya is not an ideal teacher at all.

#  write something about your experience like Eklavya Or Arjuna with any teacher during your study phase till now .
No, I have not experience like Eklavya Or Arjuna with any teacher during my study phase till now.
