'Of Dramatic Poesy' by John Dryden.

# literary theory and criticism: Dryden's Essay 'of Dramatic Poesy':

Hello Readers !

I am the student of english language and literature, Here I write this blog as the task given by Dr. Dilip barad sir. As given six video to watch and gave one idea or concept which we like from each video and ask at list one question from each video. So which I like concept I depicted here.

# why Dr. Samuel Johnson called Dryden the father of English criticism?

Dryden was being called 'the father of English criticism by Dr. Samuel Johnson (1709-1786) father in the sense, one who originate certain things, one who propogate in a particular in a sustain manner we know that before Dryden there was sir Philip sidney in the english translation but he left very little of material compare to that Dryden has quite more.
Father also in the sense if we take little simplistically after Aristotle here is a person. Who is giving us a very well-firmed definition of play. And besides of his Dramatic poise he has other prefaces and other critical writing mentioning in the subsequent chapter which gives the position of father of criticism to Dryden.

# short video lecture on Dryden as critic and title of the Essay:'Of Dramatic poesy 'as a critical work.

Dramatic poesy as practiced by the Neoclassicist like Dryden need to justification itself, practicinious like Shakespeare, Webster or Marlowe they all are romantic as it is that the dramatic art form practice by the Neoclassicist has to put into on flag courageously and show is autonomis and independent once again rooting back through sideeny to Horance to Aristotle is once again to the point. So Dramatic piesy looks back, notupport only looks to temper and moderate the co practitioners of the dramatic art of Dryden's own

# SLV on Dryden's Definition of play.

Definition of play
'A play ought to be a just and lively image of human nature, representing it's passions and humors, and the changes of fortune to which it is subject for the delight and instruction of mankind'

The Dramatic poesy represent and anlight few significant words the play out to be just a lively
image not artificially. Representation of human nature.

# controversy regarding use and avoidance of rhymes in Dryden's 'Essay of Dramatic poesy'

The debate between crites and Dryden himself as Neander.

Neander defend sound is really weak and  in praxis. We have to remember that Dryden's most famous play All for love, is not in verse. So he supports it here, then goes on to write a play which is not in verse. So he seems to have learnt from this exercise and that a play should be more  natural. Neander's defense as to say, he says that he agrees that only he would includes serious plays in the ambit. And he should say he says that the adding of the rhyrhyme in it, the verse in a actually more. The grandeur, the grandeur of thought and action that matches with serious.

# The arguments between crites and Neander about the use of 'rhymed verse'(heroic couplet) and 'blank verse' in the play (of dramatic poesy'1668) .

Neander  is stand for use of rhyme verse. Crites on rhyme and blank verse are presented.

  • Crites say that rhyme is  unnatural in the play. So it should not be. It should be proper medium for presently of human nature.

Neander say that literature is sensory phenomenon. When you read something. Itappeals your sense of vision but it appeals your sense of listening too. That adds more charm to the literature. So it is all about choosing of the words, how do you choose the words. So if we use appropriate words at the appropriate place. Than there is no point of unnaturally.

  •  Crites say that without premeditation, it is impossible to express or speak. 'No man without premeditation speak in rhyme
NeanNeander say that. If the stress meter, pitch, pan in language them it creates a certain impression, certain effect over the language.
